FAQs
- What are your qualifications and credentials?
Our team consists of professionals with a wide range of experience and qualifications. From Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) professionals to Certified Public Accountants (CPAs), our people are committed to staying abreast of the financial and tax matters that impact the everyday lives of our clients. Collectively, our team brings decades of experience guiding clients to and through retirement as we aim to fulfill our goal of making the financial lives of our clients a little bit easier.
- How are you compensated?
Given the wide array of services we provide via the different entities underneath our umbrella, our firm may be compensated a few different ways. As a Registered Investment Advisor, we may charge a financial planning fee for the planning work that we do (depends on your situatoin). In addition, if you hire us to manage an investment portfolio for you, we charge an advisory fee for the assets we manage (please refer to our ADV). Insurance products offered through our insurance division and offered through our licensed agents. As an independent agency, we represent a wide range of insurance companies and products. Insurance agents are paid a commission directly from the insurance company that we determine has the best product for your situation.
- What services do you offer?
Market Street Wealth Management is not like your traditional financial advisory practice. We built our firm to help meet a wide range of needs for our clients. This includes tax planning and preparation, retirement income planning, medicare and health insurance, investment management, legacy planning, and property and casualty insurance.
- How do you approach financial planning?
Financial planning is much more than choosing investments or insurance products. Our approach to financial planning is to ensure that we look at your entire picture. It starts with getting very clear about your vision. What are your goals and dreams? What keeps you awake at night? At the end of the day, we know that most of our clients want to make sure they can answer "yes" to a seemingly simple question - "am I going to be ok?" This question means something different to everybody, and it's our job to unpack it with you.
It's important that our clients understand that we don't take shortcuts. We're going to ask about your tax situation. We'll explore your legacy considerations. We'll have the tough, not-so-fun (but super important) conversations. When you become a client of Market Street Wealth Management, we plan for that to be a long-term relationship, not just a transaction.
- Can you explain your investment philosophy?
Our investment philosophy is fairly simplistic.
- We believe that your retirement income goes a long way to determine your retirement outcome. As a result, we address this need first.
- We believe in using cost-effective investments whenever possible.
- We believe in education. While we don't expect our clients to be investment gurus, we want them to have a general understanding of what they are investing in.
- We believe in course corrections. When you invest in the stock market, growth is never in a straight line. As a result, we may need to make adjustments to your portfolio. This is true as the value of your portfolio changes as well as when your life evolves and circumstances change.
- We believe in managing risk wisely. It's no secret that investing in the stock market carries an inherent element of risk. Our job is to help you manage that and be your guide for evaluating what risks are worth taking (and which ones aren't). - What is the client experience like with Market Street Wealth Management?
There are two sides to the client experience with our firm.
The first is the "business" side of the relationship. Our goal is to leave no stone unturned as it relates to the things that impact your financial future. This is the reason we've structured our firm to have the wide array of services that we offer. Our clients appreciate our vision of creating a "one-stop shop" for their various needs. It ensures that the right hand knows what the left hand is doing.
The second side of the client experience is a bit more personal. Whether it is hosting fun social events or simply talking about non-financial related items during our meetings, our client relationships mean the world to us. We want to be a blessing to our clients in whatever way we possibly can - and that involves creating an experience that is uniquely different.
- How often will we meet?
The answer to this question varies based upon your needs. We typically meet with clients a minimum of once a year. However, every client has a different situation and many clients will need to meet more frequently than that based upon what may be happening in their life. We routinely meet with clients virually through video calls and/or via the telephone for simple check-ins.
- How do you stay informed about changes in the financial industry?
The financial industry is ever-evolving. New investments become available. Tax laws change. Planning strategies evolve. Our team routinely attends conferences to stay abreast of the changes taking place in the industry. Each of the licensed professionals have minimum requirements that must be met annually for continuing education. This education may come from webinars, online forums, live events, as well as learning from other professionals in the industry.
- What is your approach to risk management?
Our firm's approach to risk management is comprehensive given the type of planning we do.
Some element of risk exists in everything you do. Whether it is investing, health care decisions, legacy planning, etc. The choice is simply about how you plan to address those risks. You may be able to avoid the risk. You may be able to reduce the risk. You may be able to transfer the risk. Or, you could simply accept the risk.
Our job is to help you understand the risks that exist for your situation and provide guidance on the options available to you.
- Do you operate as a fiduciary?
As a Registered Investment Advisory firm, we do operate as fiduciaries; we're committed to putting your interests ahead of our own in everything we do.
- How will you adapt your strategy to changes in my life or financial situation?
This is at the core of what we do and why we have structured our firm in the manner we have. Your needs will change over the course of our relationship together. We are passionate about keeping our lines of communication open with you and take our commitment to you very seriously. Life is full of critical events - some positive, some negative. Our financial plans remain flexible and our team is ready to adapt as things change in your life. Whether that change impacts your taxes, requires a change in your insurance/investments, or an update to your legacy plan, we're always a phone call and a meeting away from helping you navigate whatever comes your way.
- Am I going to be OK?
This is one of our favorite questions. It's also one of the most common, get-to-the-point questions we receive from our clients. Our job is to help you create and implement a plan that will provide you with the confidence to answer this with an emphatic "Yes!"
- Do I have enough money to retire?
There's nothing more rewarding to us than to be able to help somebody retire and swap out the desk chair for a beach chair. One of the core services we provide is retirement income planning. If this is your question, let us help you get the answer.
- Describe the client that can benefit most from the services you offer?
Our clients come from a wide range of occupations and have extremely diverse backgrounds. However, they are all looking for something similar - they want a simpler financial life. They appreciate having the various services being available to them in one place. They are kind and respectful. Most of our clients are in or nearing retirement (typically within 5-10 years of retirement). They've worked hard to get where they are and want somebody to serve as a guide to help them navigate them through the phase of their financial journey. If this sounds like you, we'd love to talk.
